Jaipur Foot And Jaipur Limbs

Late Dr. P.K. Sethi

Introduction

Were described in 1970 as a culture specific alternative to western designrd artifical limbs. It was later realized that Jaipur Foot had design features which even the advanced countries were interested in and the simplicity of the technology, low cost and a "rapid fit" system enabled hundreds of thousands of amputees in India and some other developing countries to be fitted with these limbs.

Victims in Cambodia, vietnam, Afghanistan, Angola, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Nicaragua, EI Salvadore, Honduras are now full of amputees and International Aid Agencies look upon Jaipur Limbs as offerring the most practical solution to help these amputees.

To meet the growing demand, both for polio victims and for lower limb amputees, S.D.M.H. has recently set up a Training Centre. Cambodia is already having a Jaipur limb centre with our collaboration. Technicians from vietnam Angola, Mozambique and Bangla Desh have been trained here and our technicians have gone to these countries to help in the setting up of Jaipur Limb Centres. In 2001, a Rotary International Award for "World understanding and peace" to Late Dr. P.K. Sethi has been used to fund the training Centre at Santokba Durlabhji Hospital Jaipur.
